Motown was the record label that brought forth the illustrious music of African-American culture to the mainstream. Soul has become one of the most popular music genres thanks to the Motown groups and artists who brought with them great music. While producing soulful tunes and pop-appealing sonic structures from angelic singers, the label molded a trademark called the "Motown Sound." The style dominated the 60s and 70s and has a visible influence on today's contemporary music. The legends that blossomed under its belt are Diana Ross & The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, the Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Lionel Richie, Michael Jackson & the Jackson 5, and many more. Considerably, they are responsible for the best records that came out in the 20th century. Included in this was there "A Motown Christmas," a compilation of Holiday songs from their artists. Since the Christmas season will not be perfect without the Motown specials, "A Motown Christmas" will now be performed live! There are so much to expect, especially since the performers will be from the label's greatest artist and groups.
"A Motown Christmas" was an album first released in 1973. It was a compilation of Holiday songs from Motown artists and groups in the 60s and 70s. After several years, it was reissued. The first rerelease was in 1992 through compact discs and in 1999 through CDs. In 2001, its second volume came out.
More than two decades after, the Holiday album is translated into a live show named after it. The show features the old and new members of legendary Motown groups like The Temptations, The Miracles, and The Contours.
The Temptations is best known for its five members, who are all exemplary singers. They have released songs like "Papa was a Rollin' Stone," "Just My Imagination," and "My Girl." Currently, its members include Otis Williams, Ron Tyson, Terr Weeks, Tony Grant, and Jawan Jackson.
The Miracles was the first successful vocal group of Motown. The group's legacy includes the songs "Do It Baby," "Love Machine," "What's So Good About Goodbye," and "Way Over There."
The Contours is also among the early acts of the label. The band is best known for the critically acclaimed song "Do You Love Me" and other radio staples like "Shake Sherry," "Can You Do It," and "First I Look at the Purse."
Members of these three classic Motown groups will be joining forces to make Christmas extra special in cities near you. Witness them perform at the Johnny Mercer Theatre on November 29. See you there!
